Mr. Jagat Narain Kapoor was the founder of Jagat Aroma Oils Distillery. It is India’s leading organization that has specialized in the manufacturing and supplying of essential oils and attars. With century-old experience, it has established itself as a pioneer entity.
Mr. Jagat Narain Kapoor was born on 1st of January in the year 1922 in Kannauj, India (Grasse of the East). An inquisitive learner from childhood, he completed his Bachelors in Pharmacy from the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in the year 1944. Subsequently he worked in two companies before joining the family business in 1947 and founded Jagat Aroma Oils Distillery in 1972.
In 1944, as part of his thesis at BHU, Mr. Kapoor isolated the essential oil from the roots of a wild Cyperus Scariosus, thus becoming the first person in the world to do so. The product is now sold under the brand name CYPRIOL and has become a major ingredient in fragrances and flavours worldwide. The best-known international brands use this in their formulations. He also introduced to the world Indian Essential Oils like Ajowan, Calamus, Tagetes, Himalayan Cedar Wood and Anethum Sowa. Another major achievement of Mr. Kapoor is that he introduced the farming of Mentha Arvensis in the mid 60s on a commercial scale; India is now the largest producer of Mint Oils in the world.
Mr. Kapoor was a globetrotter and had travelled to over 100 countries to disseminate his knowledge. It may sound fascinating to the present generation, but he witnessed the second World War and the independence of India.
Mr. Kapoor received numerous awards from the Central and State governments of India for his specialization in the production and export of Indian Essential Oils. He was the founding member of the Essential Oils Association of India and subsequently awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the association for his contributions to the industry. He was also the member of various bodies including Bureau of Indian Standards committee for Essential oils, International Federation of Essential Oils and Aroma Trades, Fragrances and Flavours Association of India and The Pharmaceutical Society, IIT (BHU) Varanasi.
Since graduating from BHU, Mr. Kapoor has always been involved with his alma mater. He financially supported various students through grants and scholarships. He was also honored as the Chief Guest at BHU’s annual festival in 2018.
Mr. Kapoor had a firm belief that the continuous adaptation and transformation in quality processes contribute to the rapid growth of an organization. He always championed customer satisfaction and long-term relationships over profit making.
Mr. Jagat Narain Kapoor has been instrumental in making the organization what it is today. It is his thoughts, principles, and blessings that will always guide the organization to move ahead.
