Discover the Legacy of JAGAT’s founder
Mr. Jagat Narain Kapoor
Mr. Jagat Narain Kapoor, born on January 1, 1922, in Kannauj, India, was the visionary founder of Jagat Aroma Oils Distillery, India’s foremost organization specializing in the manufacturing and supply of fragrance and flavour materials.

He earned his Bachelor’s in Pharmacy from Benares Hindu University (BHU) in 1944, where he pioneered the isolation of Cypriol® oil from the roots of wild Cyperus Scariosus. It has now become a key ingredient in global fragrances. After graduating, he apprenticed at two companies before founding Jagat Aroma Oils Distillery in 1972. During his time at JAGAT, he introduced Indian essential oils like Ajowan, Calamus, Tagetes, Himalayan Cedarwood, and Anethum Sowa to the world. In the 1960s, he led the commercial farming of Mentha Arvensis, making India the top producer of Mint Oils.
Recognized for his expertise, Mr. Kapoor received numerous government awards, held various industry memberships and was a founding member of the Essential Oils Association of India.
Mr. Kapoor’s philosophy centered on innovation, quality, and lasting relationships over profit. His legacy continues to inspire JAGAT, driving its pursuit of excellence and progress.
